Governor Hugh L. Carey helping to conduct the Albany Symphony Orchestra with composer Steve Karmen, at the Harvest Music Festival. Karmen composed “I Love New York”, the song the orchestra performed, on the Empire State Plaza. “I Love New York” was later declared the state song by Governor Carey.
The Harvest Music Festival was a full day event with music and farmers' markets at the Empire State Plaza. The Albany Police Department estimated that at least 75,000 people attended.
