Panoramic map of the Adirondack Mountains surrounding the Lyon Mountain fire observation tower in Saranac, Clinton County, oriented such that north is to the lower right. The date is unknown, but likely ca. 1919-1921. Panoramic maps are depictions of cities or landscape seen from an oblique elevated angle. The maps in this collection (images NYSA_14297-87_606 to 623) provide 360 degree views of the landscape surrounding the towers out to a distance of about twenty miles. This image was created to record the forest fire-related activities of the New York State Conservation Commission.
