Two of the men are identified as a Mr. MacLean and a Mr. Pratt; Mr. Pratt may be George D. Pratt, New York State Conservation Commissioner from 1915 to 1920. One man is a state forest ranger. They are sitting on the fallen trunk of a tree with their snowshoes off to the side. A branch has been placed into the water to prevent it from freezing over, and to attract fish. This image was created to record the forest recreation activities of the New York State Conservation Commission.
