This stand of beech trees (Fagus grandifolia) has undergone Forest Stand Improvement, a process of improving the yield of a woodlot by regular and systematic thinning. This image shows one result of the process, where each tree has enough space to expand its crown. The work has been done by the Civilian Conservation Corps, camp S-125, stationed in Slaterville Springs, N.Y. This image was created to record the reforestation work of the Civilian Conservation Corps under the supervision of the New York State Conservation Department.
