This is an example of a waterhole of the type constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during their reforestation work. A spring or stream was located to provide water, then a hole was dug and lined with stone to capture a reserve of water. These holes were used by firefighters during fire suppression efforts in the state forests. This hole is located in Tompkins County, and was built by CCC camp 125, stationed in Slaterville Springs, N.Y. This image was created to record the reforestation work of the Civilian Conservation Corps under the supervision of the New York State Conservation Department.
