This is the historic Senate House, originally built in 1676 and merging tradition Dutch and English styles. Originally the house of the merchant Abraham Van Gaasbeek, it gained its name in 1777 when it became the meeting place for the first New York State Senate. British soldiers burned it, along with most of the surrounding city of Kingston, but shortly thereafter it was rebuilt. The state acquired the property in 1887, and in 1927 built a museum nearby to display the growing historical collection. This image was created to record the historic site activities of the New York State Conservation Department.
