James Jackson ex demise Beverly Robinson vs. Samuel Monroe, litigants; pleadings supplied to trial court (“nisi prius roll”) with judgment in favor of Robinson, June 12, 1764. Samuel Monroe (also Munroe) from Connecticut settled in the northeast part of the Philipse Highland Patent. He held a land title under an overlapping Connecticut grant, and he became a leader of those who disputed the title of the Philipse heirs. One of the heirs, Beverly Robinson, commenced an ejectment action in the Supreme Court in 1761, seeking to secure Monroe as a tenant or evict him from his farm.
