This is an ink, wash and charcoal map of a section of the Erie Canal in Watervliet. The map is split into two views. The first view shows the Hudson River, an area called Washington that was formerly known as Gibbonsville, an L shaped basin, four bridges, over a hundred buildings, the United States Arsenal, Buffalo Street, Albany Street, Montgomery Street, Ferry Street, Washington Street, River Street, Schenectady Street and Shaker Road. The second view shows the Hudson River, a stream, two bridges, Twenty-three buildings, Saratoga Street, Steben Street and Rensselaer Street. The red lines indicate courses and distances. The blue lines indicate canal right-of-way. The map also shows the properties of Widow Gibbons.
