Described in "List of Photographs, 1911-1912" as "Beating up machines. The men are constantly splashed with very hot water. Humidity intense; no proper exhaust system." In this photograph taken at the Waring Hat Manufacturing Co.'s Dock St. Plant in Yonkers, New York, two men stand a short distance from large cauldrons. Water is pouring from under the lids of the cauldrons, and thick steam rises toward the ceiling. The man nearest the cauldrons is wearing a full-length apron to guard against splashing hot water.
