A manuscript copy of the Laws of 1780, chapter 13, "An Act for the Amendment of the Law Directing the Sales of Forfeited Lands." This act was passed to handle ownership and taxation of lands owned by individuals who had "gone over to and joined the enemy" during the American Revolution. Part 2, side 1 specifically mentioned land that had been acquired after "the ninth day of July one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven" and that land being held by those who "had gone over to and joined the enemy" during the American Revolution were "deemed to be forfeited." Part 2, side 2 concerned the payment of taxes to the commissioners of the state for compensation relative to the tracts of land acquired. Part 3, side 1 is the label and date of the document "truly copied from the original lodged in the secretary's office of this state." Part 3, side 2 is addressed "For the Commissioners of Forfeitures."
