Thermal mosaic of World Trade Center site taken on September 16, 2001, a few days after the September 11 terrorist attack upon the site. The thermal images captured data that firefighters used to plan their work and assess the effectiveness of different firefighting techniques. Many fires were still burning when these images were taken; the lighter the shade of gray, the higher the temperature.
This image shows thermal conditions at the site of 7 World Trade Center as seen from the south. Fiterman Hall, a Borough of Manhattan Community College building irreparably damaged by the collapse of 7 World Trade Center, is immediately above 7 World Trade Center. The New York Telephone Building is at top left.
