Roosevelt Field Area, N.Y. (3 of 7)
Roosevelt Field was an airfield in Garden City, NY. It was named for Theodore Roosevelt's son, who was killed in combat during WWI. Roosevelt Field holds an important place in aviation history. Charles Lindbergh used Roosevelt Field as a take off point for his 1927 transatlantic solo flight.

Used mainly by the Navy and Army during WWII, the airfield was closed in June 1951, shortly before this image was taken.

The airfield was located at the intersection of Old Country Road and Clinton Road, which since the early 1960's has become the Roosevelt Field Mall.
