Captree Bridge Construction, N.Y.
Aerial view of the Captree Bridge under construction. View of bridge supports and construction platforms with cranes in the ocean. Shorelines on both ends of the bridge are visible. The first section, built in West Islip, Long Island, between the Southern State Parkway and Montauk Highway opened in 1953. The bridge opened in 1954, a two mile bridge across Great South Bay to Captree Island and the Ocean Parkway.
