Captree Bridge Construction, N.Y.
Aerial view of the Captree Bridge under construction. View of bridge supports and a construction platform with a crane in the ocean. The first section, built in West Islip, Long Island, between the Southern State Parkway and Montauk Highway opened in 1953. The bridge opened in 1954, a two mile bridge across Great South Bay to Captree Island and the Ocean Parkway.
