View of High Bridge, a multiple-arch bridge over the Harlem River near New York City. Opened in 1848, the bridge, which runs from Manhattan to the Bronx, is the oldest bridge in New York City connecting two boroughs. It was built to accommodate the Croton Aqueduct, which carried water from the Croton River to Manhattan. The bridge added a pedestrian walkway in the 1860s.
