View southwest from Mount Beacon on the Hudson River near Beacon, New York. Fields occupy the flood plain between the mountain and the river. Across the river, an occasional hill rises from the plain. During the Revolutionary War, militia were directed to light fires on Mt. Beacon if British were spotted advancing up the Hudson River.
