Application for land grant submitted by Willem Tietsoort to Lord Cornbury, Governor of New York, 1707. The application was for land in Orange County, near the Delaware River. Tietsoort noted that he was a survivor of the infamous "Schenectady Massacre" of 1690, the first violence on American soil as a part of King William's War. He had resided in Schenectady, then a small Dutch town, when it was attacked by a combined French Canadian and Indian force, but had managed to escape with his daughter. Indian allies in Esopus (now Kingston) had subsequently granted him land near modern day Port Jervis, N.Y., which he asked Cornbury to confirm.
