A group of eight Indian men sit and harvest sugar cane in the middle of a plantation south of Agra in the United Provinces (modern Uttar Pradesh), India. A large jar and rolled-up cloth are in the foreground. A worker in the center appears to be chewing a piece of cane to extract the sugar. The men are sitting in a field of harvested sugar cane, while unharvested stalks stand behind them. Uttar Pradesh has long been the main source of Indian sugar, (1933).
