France - "Napoleon Crossing the Alps" by Jacques-Louis David
Jacques Louis David’s (1748-1835) famous painting,

“Napoleon Crossing the Alps,” depicting events happening on May 20, 1800. The painting is housed and reproduced from the Château de Malmaison in Versailles, France. David was an influential painter who became deeply involved in French politics, during both the French Revolution and the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. David’s artwork had come to the attention of Bonaparte, who commissioned a commemorative portrait of his crossing of the Alps to attack Italy. The general had actually crossed the Alps on a mule, but David painted him on a fiery white horse instead at his request. David later became the official court painter of Bonaparte’s government, n.d.
