Electoral College. Appointment of Frederick Douglass by Electors
Appointment of Frederick Douglass of Monroe County to deliver the votes of the New York members of the Electoral College to the U.S. Senate, 1872. Most members had pledged themselves to Ulysses S. Grant for President. The appointment was signed by all New York electors, as well as by Douglass.
